5 Post-Workout Beauty Tricks to Try
There’s a reason Louise Roe is regularly featured on best-dressed roundups year after year. As a model, fashion journalist, and author of Front Roe: How to Be the Leading Lady in Your Own Life, the British beauty knows a thing or two about looking picture perfect.
But since she, like the rest of us, enjoys working up a sweat, Roe has mastered a post-exercise beauty routine that gets her hair, skin, and makeup back in shape faster than it takes to complete a set of mountain climbers. Here’s her top 5 recommendations to make you look your post-workout best.
Hit The Showers
“I hate the idea of having sweaty skin or a sweaty scalp,” says Roe, “If I’ve done hard core cardio, I exfoliate my face and use a detoxifying shampoo in the shower.” Another trick she incorporates into her routine? She rubs tea tree oil into her roots every couple of weeks. “It’s great for cleaning your scalp of sweat and yuckiness.”
Treat Your Skin
After her shower, Roe turns to soothing products with aloe vera to calm her skin, as well as body lotions that include almond or monoi oil. “Jasön has an organic range of sweet body butters that are lovely,” she gushes.
To maintain her glowy, just-left-the-gym complexion, Roe uses a cleanser, then layers on Kate Somerville serum and Jouer primer. “I use the primer under makeup to stop shine, especially when I’m headed to a shoot in hot weather.” The E! regular also stashes Caudalíe Beauty Elixir in her gym bag to revive sweaty skin on-the-go.
Keep Makeup Minimal
“It depends on how much of a rush I’m in, but [if I have time] I love Lancôme’s tinted moisturizer. It has SPF and is light so you don’t feel like you’re wearing any makeup at all,” Roe says. She then beefs up the coverage with additional MAC foundation if she’s going to a meeting or shoot after her workout. “I mainly [use] cream makeup products. I hate my skin feeling too powdered and dry.”
To complete her post-gym look, she turns to her NARS bronzer to give her a sun-kissed glow, gives her lashes a swipe with a Maybelline mascara wand, and enhances her brows with a MAC eyebrow pencil.
Have a Hair Plan
If she doesn’t wash her locks, Roe tends to it last. “Hair gets 30 seconds, as I’m usually late by then,” she says. To mop up extra oil, she’ll use a dry shampoo or baking soda. “It’s great if you’re on the go and don’t have time to style it, but need a little volume.”
If your locks are wet when you start working out, work light mousse like TRESemmé Expert Selection Perfectly (un)Done Wave Creation Sea Foam from roots to tips with your fingers. “Then as your hair dries naturally, it has this gorgeous matte texture and body to it.”
Don’t Forget the Finishing Touch
Roe’s final tip is great whether or not you just worked out. Her tip for smelling great on-the-go? She carries a L’Occitane roller ball perfume. She says, “It’s great as it’s a lighter bottle and it fits in your handbag.”
