P90X3 Results: This Busy Dad Lost 32.2 Pounds!
Randy Clarke lost 32.2 lbs. in 90 days with P90X3. He entered his results into the Beachbody Challenge, and won the $500 Daily Prize for March 22nd!
Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
My name is Randy Clarke. I am 34 years old, 5’11”, and started my journey at 235 pounds with P90X3 on November 1, 2015. I am a father of two beautiful girls and one boy. My wife and I are very busy running from soccer games, swimming, and karate practices with our three children. Although we don’t stop much, I never used to make time to work out or do cardio properly, like I should have. Sure I have tried — recently I joined a walk-to-run club at work, but due to an old knee injury, I ended up being unable to walk normally for over two weeks (after just a few weeks into the running program).* It would seem the terrain and pavement afforded to me within my workplace neighborhood were just too unforgiving for my knees. Before starting the program, I was ashamed to be seen with my shirt off and would sleep with my T-shirt on so nobody would see me. I avoided the swimming pool, and when I did swim, I managed to find a way to keep my T-shirt on.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
My children inspired me. Although they are young, they are all very athletic and love sports and fitness. I want to be an example and inspiration to them, not an excuse. Since I started P90X3, I made myself a promise that I would find 30 minutes a day for three months. I had invested a minimal amount of money in a good pair of cross-trainers (important), a floor mat (to soften impact on my knees), and a yoga mat. I also bought a set of weights and resistance bands. My body and knees held up amazing — I credit this to the diversity of exercises and use of muscle confusion techniques. I lost over 30 pounds, and my children are so proud of me. My wife has also been very supportive in giving me a solid 30-minute window daily to get it down. I was also inspired by a colleague of mine who recently switched offices. When I saw him months later, it was obvious he went through a transformation. He told me about his experience with Beachbody and that he was a Coach with them — the rest is history.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge?
My greatest challenges before the program were excuses and past injuries. However, with Beachbody, I have no excuse. Beachbody offers a breadth of products at amazingly low prices (check out the Beachbody On Demand service) that you do from home. No memberships, long drives to the gym, or leaving your family at home. If I can do it, so can you. Sure, you may have to modify some exercises if you are not in ideal shape, or if you have injuries*. But get out there and give it what you have (within safe limits) for 30 minutes solid, and you will see benefits (it is okay to hit pause every now and then — I did). I also bought a Fitbit that keeps me accountable daily, which helps me track my steps, calories, and more. Another great resource is the P90X app. Next up for me is Hammer and Chisel — although I will miss my buddy Tony Horton. I may have to re-visit P90X3 every now and then still.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
As mentioned before, I love that I do not need to pay for a gym membership, take long drives to the gym, or leave my family at home. Also, with P90X3, they show you how to modify some exercises if you are not in ideal shape, or if you have injuries. If you can’t do a normal push-up, no problem. If you can’t do chin-ups, no problem. Use the bands. Can’t afford buying weights and a chin-up bar? No problem. Use the bands in place of both! Also, who doesn’t love Tony Horton’s humor (or lack thereof from time to time — I joke!).
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
The results have been amazing. I have gone from 235 pounds to 202.8 in just 90 days. I have also dropped a total of 24.5 inches from my waist, hips, chest, and thighs. I also feel healthier, stronger, and lighter on my feet. I am also more energized, and find I feel more confident and positive about life in general.
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
Life is great. I am a better person physically and mentally, and feel like I am a better example and parent to my children.
How did your Team Beachbody Coach support you on your journey?
My Coaches were amazing. They introduced me to Team Beachbody when I was ready, never pushing me for the sake of it. I truly felt like they wanted me to do good for me, on my terms (not because they wanted to make a commission or sale). Whether I needed in-person support, emailed a question, or wrote them on Facebook, they were there ready to provide me an answer or the information I requested. My Coach also introduced me to Shakeology and provided me with samples to try free of charge. Beyond that, they would make recommendations to me regarding programs, exercise equipment, and strategies for reaching my goals. My Coach’s own results are also inspirational and are what intrigued me to look into the Beachbody program in the first place. He was also quite intrigued with this Tony Horton guy — who eventually grew on me too.
