Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
I’ve struggled with weight my whole life. I got used to the fact that I was a “large girl” at a very young age, and I didn’t do anything to stop it — I simply let it become my identity. It sounds sad now but at the time it was my normal. It wasn’t until college that I realized I should probably do something about it. I knew nothing about eating healthy or taking care of myself, and if I made it to the gym, I would reward myself with a treat that was probably more calories than I even burned there. It took me a long time to realize that I had a lot of work to do.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
I began running and doing cardio in order to lose weight. For a while, it was successful. I shed about 20 pounds from simply becoming more active and teaching myself how to run. But at a certain point, I hit a plateau. I wasn’t losing more weight because my body got used to running and it was also the only type of exercise I got done. I wanted to do something that would strengthen my core and also give me flexibility, but I couldn’t force myself to work that hard at the gym on my own. My willpower was low. But a friend introduced me to PiYo and it was exactly what I was looking for at the time. It gave me strength and confidence and helped me finally break the plateau I had hit. I became strong and confident. I have continued bettering and pushing myself with new goals and new programs. I’m currently in the best shape I have ever been and I have PiYo, FOCUS T25, The Master’s Hammer and Chisel, and Shakeology to thank for that. Thank you!
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge?
At first, I didn’t realize before how guarded I was. And how much of those walls were because of my weight. Once I started shedding inches and toning up with Beachbody, I really opened up. I’m more confident than ever, no longer feeling self-conscious about how I look or what to say next. It’s been a very freeing experience. I feel so strong, which isn’t something I’ve ever felt before. And now my biggest challenge is when I hit new plateaus. I’ve come such a long way and I have to remember that but when I can’t beat my last goal, that’s where I really struggle. It can be hard to remember how far I’ve come when I’m stuck in this moment trying to get the scale to move. But this program helped me realize that it’s not about the scale. I looked at my “before” and “after” photos after Hammer and Chisel and really saw how much my body has changed. I know how much stronger I am. This program helped me recognize my progress and feel strong and proud of it!
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
I wasn’t sure I would like Hammer and Chisel at first. I had never done a workout where the primary focus was lifting weights. So I began the program feeling a bit nervous but I really ended up loving it. There were parts of my body I had never toned before. I really like that Hammer and Chisel tones the back and the arms. When I look back at my “before” and “after” pictures, I can really see a difference in the shape of my back and torso, something I didn’t even realize was possible. Another thing I really like is the constant feeling of improvement. The more I did the workouts, the more weight I could lift at the gym. I felt like a total badass — like I was training to be a superhero. That’s the best part. It had me pushing limits that had never crossed my mind. If you would have told me a year ago that I would be easily lifting 20-pound weights, I would have laughed in your face.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
I’m proud of the strength that Beachbody has given me. Before starting a specific program, I didn’t have specific weight-loss goals, but after seeing what I could do with PiYo and T25, I now have specific goals I can work toward, most of them relating to strength. Hammer and Chisel helped me define muscles in my back, chest, arms, and legs, and I’ve toned up in places I never thought possible. Sometimes I look in the mirror and think “that couldn’t possibly be my body”… but it is! It’s incredible.
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
My life has changed in so many ways. I have developed healthier habits, I know more about how to fuel my body to give myself energy, I have specific goals to work toward, and I have a body that, although it is still in progress, gives me more confidence than I’ve ever had before! I am so happy and healthy. I am so grateful.
How did participating in a Challenge Group help you reach your goals? How did your group support you and keep you accountable?
The Challenge Group was everything when it came to keeping me on track. On days where I felt like giving up, I felt I had a duty to report to my Challenge Group daily so I would get up and do the workouts anyway, even if I didn’t feel like it or was in a slump that day. And if I ever did fall off track or not post in a couple days, my Coach would reach out to me to see how everything was going to make sure I wasn’t falling off the bandwagon. And I may have fallen off if I didn’t have the group to report back to.
How did your Team Beachbody Coach support you on your journey?
Megan supported me in every way possible. She checked in with me every day and made sure I was drinking my shakes. She pushed me to be better.
How did a Beachbody supplement, nutritional product, or program (such as Shakeology or Beachbody Ultimate Reset) support your transformation? What are the greatest benefits you gained? Did you see benefits to your energy, sleep, mood/mental clarity, or digestion/regularity?
I noticed that Shakeology kept me full for longer periods of time. I work as a waitress and have an odd shift that goes from 11 AM to 6 PM with no breaks. I would have my shake for lunch at 11 AM, and I noticed that I wasn’t getting hungry before the shift was over. Whereas when I used to have a full meal before work, I was always hungry by 4 PM or 5 PM.2
